Director Mina Shum Hosts VWIFF Spotlight Awards March 8

Award-winning independent Canadian filmmaker Mina Shum will host Vancouver Women in Film Festival’s Spotlight Awards on March 8.  Mina’s short film, Hip Hop Mom, screens as part of the Hopes Dreams and Schemes program of this year’s festival on Sunday March 11th at 6pm.

Established in 1999, the Spotlight Awards have brought together the BC Film community to celebrate the outstanding achievements of BC women in screen-based media.  WIFTV is pleased and proud to announce that Mina Shum will host The Spotlight Awards Gala on Thursday, March 8th, 2012 (International Women’s Day) – the opening night of the 7th Annual Vancouver Women in Film Festival. Mina Shum is an award-winning independent Canadian filmmaker. She has written and directed 3 feature films, numerous shorts and created two site specific video installations. Her features, Double Happiness and Long Life, Happiness and Prosperity both premiered in the US at the Sundance Film Festival and Double Happiness won the Wolfgang Staudte Prize for Best First Feature at the Berlin Fim Festival and the Audience Award at Torino.  Her short film, Hip Hop Mom, which features music by DJ Leanne, screens as part of the Hopes Dreams and Schemes program of this year’s festival on Sunday March 11th at 6pm.
