The BENSEN collection resonates with Scandinavian trend happening in furniture design today

Vancouver, Canada – Designer Niels Bendtsen will be presenting a brand-new collection for BENSEN at New York’s 23rd annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) from May 14 to 17,  following its recent debut at the Salone del Mobile Milan Fair in April 2011. Quietly asserting a sophisticated and elegant aesthetic, BENSEN is timeless modern design that derives luxury from perfect utility, quality and simplicity. The BENSEN collection can be viewed at Booth 1232 at ICFF.

The BENSEN collection stands out in the design world as it resonates with the current Scandinavian trend happening in furniture design today. BENSEN returns for its second time to the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) during the New York Design Week in May to present its full collection of Italian made products, including 4 new designs – the Torii dining chair, Radius solid wood dining table, Format modular bookcase, and the Edward sofa collection – all designed by Niels Bendtsen. Each design perfectly expresses Bendtsen’s design philosophy:  Simple, functional, designs resulting from subtle construction innovations, clever detailing, and flawless production quality.

Bendtsen states, “Quality is a funny concept. We tend to think of it as being associated with handcraft. But quality is also about your attitude to design. The concept of the BENSEN collection is part of an overall Scandinavian trend in furniture design today, reflecting the truth and appreciation of materials used in each design.”

In addition to the debut of BENSEN’s new collection this year, Niels Bendtsen recently launched his first design for Poliform – the “Tokyo Chair” – at the Salone del Mobile Fair in Milan this year.  Its elegant, simple, yet sophisticated design is characterized by two key influences: a deep appreciation of contemporary Japanese design and architecture, and the exploration of key Scandinavian archetypes.

BENSEN is a modern furniture manufacturing company in Vancouver, Canada, that has been owned and operated by Danish designer Niels Bendtsen since 1981. BENSEN’s Vancouver factory of 70 production staff produces a full range of contemporary upholstery and wooden furniture equal in quality and design integrity to the top European design brands. In early 2010, BENSEN bought a production facility in Italy to produce new designs and expand into the European market.

Born in Denmark,  and based in Vancouver, Canada, Niels Bendtsen has received several accolades, including the induction of his Ribbon chair into New York’s MOMA permanent collection, and his work has been featured on a Canadian stamp celebrating industrial design. As the recipient of the 2006 British Columbia Creative Achievement Award of Distinction, Bendtsen has successfully achieved a balance between affordability, aesthetics and quality in his designs.
